Course Description

A new clinical offering is available to 2L and 3L students. It is VOCA Restraining Order Clinic. Students enrolled in this one-semester clinic will provide legal services to victims of intimate partner violence at their injunction (protective order) hearings under the supervision of the clinic’s director. Students will be handle all aspects of the representation, including interviewing clients, drafting and filing court documents, preparing for hearings, and conducting direct and cross examination. They also will work with other service providers to ensure that their clients’ non-legal needs are addressed.

The clinic is offered for 4-6 credits, which will include a classroom component, assisting victims to write their restraining order petitions, and appearance in court in either Dane, Jefferson, Rock, or Sauk County. Student will need to plan their class schedule so that they are able to attend a hearing in one of these counties. In Dane County, for example, injunction hearings are scheduled every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning.

Students must provide a letter of interest and a resume to Professor Marsha Mansfield no later than November 22, 2018. She can be reached at
