Course Description

Substantive law of insurance including property, life, health, and liability insurance. Insurance forms are central to understanding the field and so the course include focus on first party (property) and third party (liability) forms. Insurance is a heavily regulated industry. The course will, therefore, take up the role and effect of state regulation with an emphasis on Wisconsin's laws. Because some key forms of insurance come as employee benefits, there will be an introduction to some key features of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) as it relates to insurance.
