Learning objectives for the Corporate Legal Department Externship course:
To integrate classroom and real-life experiences, allowing students to apply what they have learned in their business law classes to a real-world setting and to better understand the day-to-day work of in-house lawyers.
To see first-hand the type of legal work that companies retain “in house” and what sort of legal work is typically handled by the company’s outside counsel.
To allow students to obtain supervised, direct legal experience in areas handled by in-house lawyers and to obtain feedback on their performance.
To enable students to explore career interests and goals and build professional networks.
